Real Name: Chen Yong (known only to a
few)
Age: 21
Weight: Unknown
Height: 216 cm
Blood Type: A
Likes: Spaghetti, attractive females

-CLOTHING / DESCRIPTION-
Bears a vague resemblance to Guy (and Ryu?),
but with slightly longer hair and sharper chin. His torso is rather short,
and it is his legs that contribute to most of his height. Long arms, too.
Is rather lanky, but by no means frail. Carries a black titanium quarterstaff
along with him, which he wields in combat. Wears slack jeans, a black shirt
and jacket which tends to make him hard to spot at night. Also two fingerless
gloves for better grip on his staff, and sometimes a black, frayed headband.
Two worn Nike trackshoes complete his ensemble, but he prefers to fight
barefooted if possible.
-FIGHTING STYLE-
Hybrid fighting style which doesn't match
any of those currently known, but is largely identical to Shadow Dragon's.
ShockWave combines this with several styles picked up in the Street Fighter
tournament, including, but not limited to Saikyou-ryuu/Shotokan variant,
Wushu and Bushido. As a Kai warrior his basic abilities afford him increased
speed, stealth, strength and agility beyond mortal fighters could ever
hope to attain. As of such, he is equally adept at combat in close, cramped
quarters, but it is in open spaces and wooded areas that his prowess truly
shines. His style is extremely aggressive, and focuses on mainly offence,
only taking defensive measures when absolutely necessary. He is also proficient
with the use of all known close combat and missile weapons (sword, spear,
axe, dagger, bow and arrow, mace etc) with special emphasis on the staff,
which he fights with. On the whole, his style is largely flashy, and the
amount of damage dealt relies a lot on the compound of combos most his
moves pack.
-SPECIAL MOVES-
Quartet Wave: A projectile-type attack where ShockWave glows with dark blue energy for a split second, which is then transferred to his staff and released in the form of a huge comet-like streak. Sheathed in a psychically charged field, the fireball itself is extremely volatile, designed to explode upon impact for increased hit radius and damage. Hits thrice, and usually doesn't knock down the opponent unless they are close enough.
Quartet Ascension: Starts low. ShockWave points his staff at the ground, then sweeps it diagonally upward into the air as ShockWave leaps up, flips then lands. The sweep generates an energy shell not unlike Charlie's Somersault Justice, and can hit twice. If this part connects, ShockWave launches himself after his opponent to deliver a healthy barrage of whacks, usually five hits, the final one sending the enemy flying back a fair distance. The Quartet Ascension will end of the first part fails to connect. Although hit priority is relatively high, this move is not invincible at all unless ShockWave gathers enough energy and "flashes" (20% chance). Hits quick, but most of all, it hits HARD.
Quartet Hurricane: Dash, leaps, turns 90 degrees exactly one foot in the air before diving straight at his opponent and performing a rotating attack, staff-first, with wispy blue lines of energy swirling around his form. Blindingly fast, but doesn't inflict much damage. Useful for ending fireball battles, since this move has a tendency to burst right through all types of energy-based attacks. Hits five times, and can be executed from mid-air.
Quartet Step: Summoning a burst of speed afforded by his Kai Discipline of Huntmastery, ShockWave can dash towards another spot in the battlefield at hypersonic speed, faster than the average human eye can follow. This is not a teleport move, but functions pretty much like one. ShockWave can also 'teleport' past his opponent and most attacks by sidestepping them. A big plus is that since this isn't a teleport, ShockWave suffers from no lag time after the Quartet Step, and can proceed to attack his opponent INSTANTLY after this move. Can be followed by...
...Quartet Stasis: A rapid repetoire of hits as ShockWave Quartet Steps part his opponent that inflicts negligable damage. The "attacks" are actually quick taps at eight acupuncture points on the human body as ShockWave dashes by, which has the effect of rendering the victim totally immobile for the next 10 seconds or so. A whole can of whoopass is usually unleashed on the unlucky fellar at this point. Unblockable move that hits eight times. This move can only be executed in conjunction with the Quartet Step, and not individually.
Shadow Quartet: Magic of the Old Kingdom, copied from Shadow Dragon's Mage Fist after some observing and practising, resulting in a weaker version of the original. ShockWave hurls an invisible energy pulse forward, which will dissipate with distance. Even in this version, the Shadow Quartet causes terrific amounts of damage, usually sufficient to blow even a solid steel wall to twisted scraps. Hits only once.
Sankaku Tobi (Triangle Leap): Like Chun-Li
and Guy, ShockWave can leap off walls, cars, trees, posts, buildings and
other standing objects. Unlike normal wall leaps, ShockWave can hang on
to the said object for a split second (using the vacuum of his palms) to
correct any possible timing errors if he chooses to do so. Upon the second
leap, ShockWave can either proceed normally or do a mid-air dash down right
at his opponent.
-SUPER COMBO MOVES-
Quartet Shield: By drawing on his ki energies, ShockWave is able to form multiple layers of impregnable energy shields around himself, which provides perhaps his greatest advantage in combat. Visible as a globular geometric forcefield, this defensive energy matrix is effective at stopping all manner of physical and energy attacks, but can be collapsed if a sufficiently powerful attack is directed at it. The more SC Gauge energy used to deploy the Quartet Shield, the more resistant the shield will be against hostile attacks.
Hyper Quartet Wave: SC projectile where ShockWave creates a MASSIVE wave of ki energy in the shape of a dome and thrusts it forward. This energy wave will dissipate almost instantly after it is thrown, similar to Chun-Li's Kikoushou SC. However, the Hyper Quartet Wave has a far larger hit radius -- almost filling the entire screen -- making it possible to also use it as an anti-air attack.
- Hit Count = 6,8,12
Hyper Quartet Hurricane: Dash-n-spiral attack which resembles the Quartet Hurricane, except that ShockWave charges up far more ki energy for increased damage. Starts slower than its non-SC version, but travels twice the speed and distance. Similar to Bison's trademark move, the Hyper Quartet Hurricane can inflict up to 55% damage at maximum power, making it the second most deadly attack in ShockWave's arsenal. Also can resist SC projectiles.
- Hit Count = 7,10,15
Sonic Quartet Assault: By executing multiple Quartet Steps, ShockWave can phase himself all around the battlefield, creating five constantly moving illusions of himself around his opponent that will continuously attack the foe from all directions, making it impossible to block. A loud 'crack' will be heard, caused by ShockWave breaking through the sound barrier, the only warning ShockWave will give before he initiates the attack. Hits 25 times and drains up to 80% of the opponent's lifebar, but ShockWave himself will also suffer slight damage, since prolonged use of the Quartet Step in such a short time period will put a heavy strain his stamina.
- Hit Count = 25 (Level 3 only)
Kai Supreme Master (secret move): The first move Shadow Dragon imparted to his younger brother, ShockWave has been warned that he should never execute this move except when ABSOLUTELY necessary, since it would summon an attack so powerful that even Shadow Dragon himself could not control, and nearly lost his life trying to. Mystified, ShockWave has since then took his brother's advice to heart, and kept this piece of knowledge in the back of his mind, though there had been times where he nearly went insane with the curiosity gnawing inside him.
- Hit Count = ?,?,?
Note: All Special and SC attacks are not
telegraphed by calling their name first.
-BASIC THROWS-
Quartet Smash: Starts with a quick blow to the throat via ShockWave's staff. ShockWave then circles behind his foe, kicking their feet out from below them while they're still stunned. An elbow bash hastens them to the ground.
Quartet Charge: ShockWave winds his staff
backward as he charges it with energy, when taps his opponent on the shoulder,
releasing a massive energy pulse right into their body. Like Shadow Dragon's
Energy Grasp, the Quartet Charge can be used as a Tech.Hit counter technique
against the opponent's throws and grabs. Also doubles up as ShockWave's
air throw.
-KAI DISCIPLINES-
A major advantage that Kai Masters have over ordinary fighters are the Kai Disciplines, extraordinary natural skills that the Kai warriors are born with. Special training is required to awaken the hidden abilities within a Kai Master, and without the talent, it is impossible for one to learn the Kai Disciplines. ShockWave currently holds the rank of Kai Initiate, which means he has mastered only 2 of the 11 Kai Disciplines.
Psionic Screen: Mastery of his psychic-based Discipline enables a Kai Master to construct mental fortresses around his mindforce, which is capable of deflecting psychic attacks. This skill occurs instantly whenever a Kai Master is subjected to psionic assault, and requires no thought or concentration. With this Discipline, Kai Masters are also able to defend themselves against hypnosis, evil spirits, hostile telepathy, illusions, mind reapers, energy stealers and other supernatural attacks, as well as mask and even alter their ki aura to confuse enemies. The effectiveness of this Discipline increases as a Kai Master advances in rank.
Huntmastery: Alterations to the skeletal and muscular system come with the mastery of this Discipline. Along with super-sharp senses, Kai Masters benefit from superhuman agility, stealth and strengh, enabling them to perform seemingly impossible physical feats, including running at speeds excess of 60mph, outlifting an ant on the same scale and leaping 30 times their own height, among others. Kai Masters are also able to magnify their eyesight at will and see infra-red images, granting them vision even in total darkness. Above all, this Discipline ensures a Kai Master will never starve in the wild, for he can hunt for his own food effectively.
Elementalism: Currently in training. ShockWave
has only partially mastered this Discipline.
-TAUNTS-
- Straightens his jacket collar with his
free hand and clears his throat.
- Shows off his staff, then twirls a complete
revolution above his head.
- Same as above, but does a few quick
practise strokes. Inflicts slight damage.
-BACKGROUND STORYLINE-
After Shadow Dragon, who was thought to be lost in the Sahara Desert during an expedition, was found, he claims to the press and his family and friends that he had merely lost his direction. But in private, he confesses to his brother that he had been to another world and back, and now possesses powers beyond the ordinary as well as the Sword of the Sun. Fascinated by his brother's abilities, ShockWave started with learning a few small tricks to amuse himself. But Shadow Dragon quickly realized, with no small amount of surprise, that his brother held the potential Kai abilities within him. ShockWave trained under him, wielding a titanium quarterstaff as his weapon of choice. As the days passed, ShockWave grasped the advanced skills of weaponcraft and chi energy, as well as a few rudimentary spells of the magic of the Elder Magi. ShockWave sometimes envied his brother's magical and psionic abilities, but learned to be content with what he had, and accepted the fact that, with time and training, he would be able to do the same.
One night, Shadow Dragon received a challenge of combat from a mysterious warrior by the name of Man Sei. Intrigued by the complex energy signatures radiated by his opponent, Shadow Dragon agreed readily. Yet he got more than he bargained for: in a titanic battle on the South Pole, Man Sei defeated Shadow Dragon due to the latter's underestimation of his foe. But still, Man Sei was unable to kill his opponent, and was severely drained of energy by the fight. It was then did another fighter show up, engaging Man Sei in combat, but Man Sei fled, knowing full well that in his state he was in to condition for combat, flying away with an unconscious Shadow Dragon. ShockWave could only stand and watch in anguish, for he had yet to master the spells of levitation and teleportation and hence could not follow them. The newcomer, identifying himself as Brian Yip, warped ShockWave home.
ShockWave never forgot that night. Thinking
that his brother was dead, ShockWave continued training by himself, vowing
one day to avenge his brother. But one night, he dreamt of Shadow Dragon,
still alive in captivity, resisting Man Sei who was seeking to enslave
his soul and lay claim to the Sommerswerd. ShockWave could not shake off
the realism of the dream. The next day, travelling to Japan, ShockWave
signed up for an underground international fighting tournament. He does
not know what will happen next; now all he can do is wait...
-ATTITUDE & BEHAVIOUR-
A grinning, idiotic, full-of-blarney character
in the days before, ShockWave fell into a state of shock when his brother
was abducted by the agents of Naar, a state which totally changed his psyche
and emotions. Talking seldomly and smiling even less, he often displays
a gruff demeanor, often preferring solitude instead of company, though
he will sometimes grudgingly welcome the presence of a selected few (Dan
and Sakura included). Considered an enigma by those who really know him.
He holds high belief in the virtue of the human heart, and those with honourable
character wins his respect almost instantly. Deep down inside him, he is
an old softie and a sentimental fool, yet in times of calm he locks away
this trait, unwilling to display it. He is also consumed by blind hatred
against the Dark God and all those who side with the forces of darkness,
and these two feelings often clash together, resulting in him utterly cold
and unemotional at times, and with infinite kindness at others. Entrusting
it upon himself to rescue his brother and foil Naar's invasion at all costs,
he knows that the upcoming conflicts will be ultimately fatal for him...
and he is determined that his death will not be without meaning.
