Reminiscences of Love Ch.1

Pain. His very existence was pain. For as long as he could remember, life had found a way to bring suffering to him and to those around him. And what he was about to do brought him no consolation. Oh, not that he didn't enjoy it. The mere smell of fresh blood created a feeling of intense madness combined with joy. It pushed through his veins like a wild storm, making him unable to suppress the ecstasy that rampaged through his body. But everything had its limits, and this was way off. A challenging street fight always brought him to the peak of his senses, but a murder in cold blood made him tremble like a frightened child. Much to his dismay, he wasn't in control of his own actions right now. The young mother in front of him was terrified. She lifted a shivering hand, begging for mercy. Uncontrollable tears wet her well-defined features as she protected her baby, all hope leaving her face. Gritting his teeth, the young soldier pulled his weapon's trigger, freeing both mother and child from a life of slavery. At least that's what he told himself, biting his lower lip. He was convinced to look on the bright side of every situation, no matter how difficult it was. He looked to his left, then to his right. The sight repulsed him. The smell of death was there, and it followed wherever he went…

Evel woke up, panting. Every night a different nightmare plagued him. Shadows from his past devoured his every thought. He sadly remembered what else happened that night. The village was the first of many to be destroyed, simply because the people refused to pay tribute to the Organization. The governments were too afraid to do anything about its terrorists. Evel remember the sorrow he felt as he saw hundreds of people slaughtered. But he did not have time for remorse back then. His first priority was to serve the Organization, the second being his own survival…

As he turned to walk away, he found himself face to face with one of his superiors. How Evel hated that man Everything about him reflected pure madness.

"You hesitated"

Evel did not answer. In the short time he had been a soldier of the Organization, he had learned when to keep his mouth shut. Vega stared at him, his cold, icy ices glaring from inside his mask.

"Shadoloo has no place for soldiers who carry conscience. You are lucky that because of your…talents, you have not been disposed of already. Recuerde eso (keep that in mind), if you value your pitiful life"

The Spaniard walked away, leaving Evel behind with the desire to pull out his gun and blow his head off…

But these thoughts were worth nothing now. Evel's heart had turned cold with the passing years and his conscience played no role in his decisions anymore. He too had to make a living, and the art of killing was the only thing he knew.

"What? I'm being sent to watch over a couple of kids?" Cammy looked up from some papers, annoyed by her latest assignment.

"These are the children of one of the most influential men in the world. There have been many attempts against their lives. Your mission is to protect them" The old colonel wrinkled his features and looked sternly at the young agent siting across his desk.

"With all do respect sir, I don't do babysitting"

"Cammy, it is not my obligation to justify the reasons you're being sent there, and it is not your right to question my orders" Cammy's face curled up into a pout, as she stood up from her seat and walked out the office.

"This is just too typical…" She said to herself as she closed the door behind her…
