Changing Sides Ch. 5

Chun-li unlocked the door to her rather large apartment and stepped inside with
Vega on her heels. It was a little late in the afternoon and Chun-li was a
little exhausted. The reason is because Vega insisted that she show him around
a bit. Chun-li didn't think it was such a good idea but Vega had been so
persistent so she agreed. Vega shut the door behind him and sat down on the
love seat. Chun-li put down her keys and sat on the sofa across from him.
"So…what time do we leave", she said. "We can leave
at-", someone knocking at the door cut off his statement. Chun-li looked
at Vega then stood up. "W-who is it", she asked unlocking the door.
"It's me… Liz". Chun-l opened the door a little. Liz was standing
outside in the hallway with a big white rectangular box in her hand. "Liz…what
are you doing here", Chun-li asked. "Well I was worried about you…you
didn't sound like yourself on the phone. I also need you to try on this dress.
You are my maid of honor and I need to see if it fits", she said pushing
by Chun-li although Chun-li tried to stop her from coming in. "Also why
are you taking off-", she stopped in mid sentence when she saw Vega. Vega
only smiled at her. Liz opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out.
Her eyes were wide and she looked back at Chun-li, at Vega, then back at
Chun-li.
Chun-li closed the door and stood in front of Liz. She yanked her arm and
dragged her towards her bedroom. "Excuse us", Chun-li said over her
shoulder to Vega then closed the door.
Liz was still in shock when Chun-li closed the door. She blinked a few times
then raised her eyebrows. "That…that was Vega!! Vega is in your home!!!
What in Gods name is Vega in your home!!!!" she screamed. "Shhhh!!
Keep it down. There is a good explanation for all of this", said Chun-li.
"Well please enlighten me", said Liz sitting down. Chun-li proceeded
to tell Liz everything that was going on.
Liz sat there digesting everything that was said to her before speaking.
"And your helping him'', she asked eyes narrowed. Chun-li sighed and
leaned against the door. "Yes…I'm helping him", said Chun-li.
"Chun…you can't be serious? Did you just so happen to forget what happened
between you two? I mean you kicking him through a wall…he giving you a concussion…you
almost dying…him working for your father's killer…I mean did these thing slip
your mind in the last 24 hours?"
Chun-li shook her head. "No they didn't…I still don't trust him-"
"Then why are you helping him"?, Liz asked. Chun-li opened her mouth
to answer…but she didn't have one. Not a good one at least. "I-I don't
know", Chun-li said. "What if he's lying…what if he doesn't have a
sister-", Liz started. "No…he has one…that I am certain…I
remember", Chun-li said confidently. "Look…all I'm saying is this is
a bad idea", Liz said. "But what if he is", Chun-li said.
"Even if he is you should not get involved. You know how much trouble
you can get in. Don't do this", Liz pleaded. Chun-li looked at the floor
and closed her eyes. Liz was right, she couldn't risk her career for this.
"I already told him yes you know", she said. "Well…tell him you
changed your mind", she told her. "Promise me Chun…promise you won't
do it", Liz said glaring at her friend. Chun-li smiled a little and
nodded. "I promise", she said. Liz smiled and hugged her friend.
"Good…listen…I gotta run…call me tomorrow…k?" she said opening the
door. "Ok", Chun-li said. Liz hurried to Chun-li's front door and
walked out. Chun-li locked the door behind her. Chun-li turned around and looked
at Vega. He was sitting exactly where she left him. She took a step forward and
bit her bottom lip. How was she going to tell Vega?
"Your not going to help me…are you?" he said. "W-What"?
Chun-li asked. Vega got to his feet, his eyes never leaving hers. "I said
your not going to help me. Are you?" he said. Chun-li was speechless. How
did he know? Chun-li's eyes darted from his eyes, to the floor, then back to
his eyes.
"I've been thinking…and I can't do it. It's too big of a risk for me to
take. I mean I could get in trouble if anyone knew you were here. I know I told
you I would but…I can't. I'm sorry Vega…I just can't," she said feeling
guilty. Vega let a little small smile spread across his face. "You know…for
some reason I knew this was going happen", he said. "And I must admit…I
did lie to you", he said. Chun-li looked at him with wide eyes.
Was Liz right…was he setting her up or something?
Before anger rushed through her Vega chuckled. "I lied about not having
anyone else to help me…I did have a backup plan in case you said no", he
said. Chun-li's anger that was starting to build up immediately got dowsed with
cold water. "Oh", Chun-li said. "Listen…I'd better contact my
backup people", Vega said grabbing his claw. "I'll go now", he
said walking by her to the door. "I'll walk you down", Chun-li said.
When they reached the lobby Chun-li frowned. Vega turned to her and was
about to say something until he saw the frown on her face.
"What's wrong?" he asked. "Everything", she replied.
"This place is usually crowded…and alive…but there's no one here",
she said. Sure enough no one was there. The entire lobby was deserted. Not a
person was seen. Chun-li looked over to the main desk and saw a man with his
head faced down. She smiled. She walked over to him and shook him gently.
"Robby…Robby wake up", she said. The young security guard was
always sleeping on the job. Since he always did it she thought nothing was
wrong. She shook him harder to rouse him. She wanted to ask him why it was so
quiet. "Come on Robby…wake up", she said shacking even harder. Then
Robby's body fell over the side of the chair and landed on the floor.
"Robby", she asked going around the desk. Robby landed on his back
and his eyes were open wide. Chun-li put a hand over her mouth when she
realized he was dead. Six gunshot wounds were in his chest. His uniform shirt
was soaked with his own blood. Chun-li came from around the desk still holding
her mouth. Just then 6 ninjas burst through the door. Chun-li's eyes narrowed
in anger and she got in a fighting stance. But before she got a chance to
attack she felt a sharp pinch in her side. She looked down and saw it was a
needle.
Once the contents of the needle was emptied someone pulled it out of her.
She turned around slowly and saw who did it. Once she did she gasped and
whispered the word "B*st*rd" before darkness consumed her…
