Tournaments Aren't Everything Ch. 1 - Young Yet
Un-Determined Destiny
By Simon Corby
He awakes… slowly, last nights “work” had really taken a toll on his body. He
slowly stumbles to his Hotel Bathroom and splash’s some water over his eyes. He
looks into the mirror above the basin. His eyes were as piercing as ever. But
his left eye seemed considerably darker then his right. A small smile came from
his mouth, “a worthy opponent” he mutters to himself.
However if you saw the fight yesterday, you wouldn’t have thought so. The whole fight was a full minute long. But he had learnt a valuable lesson from it.
“Never underestimate anybody” he once again muttered, as he began to walk away from the basin, and once again enter the main room. He picked up his white duffel bag and reached inside of it for last night wage, and he counted what was left of it.
“2000… 4000… 6000…” he counted, boy this reminded him of his school days.
“8000… 10000… 12000…” he continued but at the same time he was trying to put names to two faces.
“…14000… 16000… 18000…” he put it off for the moment so he wouldn’t lose count.
“20000 Yen… so this room cost me 40000 Yen!” he makes a mental note never to treat himself again.
‘BANG! BANG! BANG!’ was heard from the door and a voice was heard from outside his room.
“What’s his surname?” was whispered, “I don’t know, he only gave one name,” another person whispered.
“Oh, OK then” was whispered again from the first person, and finally he called… “Mister Ryu? It’s checkout time.”
The Cooks and Maids rushed around franticly as they knew they only had 5 minutes before ‘they’ awoke. The table was laid with a white, silky cloth with gold lace on the edges, and the table was full of expensive cutlery. Moments later the Maids brought plates full of luxurious and well prepared food to the table, and set 3 places for the awaiting family. And this was just ‘BREAKFAST’
Finally, the door opened and 3 people entered the dining room. The first was a fairly big man that looked in his early fifty’s, he wore a black suit and had short black hair and a moustache. The second was a women with dark hair, she wore a red dress and looked as if she was in her late forty’s. The third was the ‘stand out’ so to speak. He was nearly as not as big as the first, but this one wore a gold suit, he also had long blonde hair, and he looked in his very late teens.
“Good morning George!” said the first person to the main servant, who was stood, head bowed down in front of him.
“Good morning, Mr & Mrs Masters!” said George as he slowly rose his head and the youngest came into sight.
“Good morning, Master Ken” George said again which prompted a small smile from Ken.
Monday morning was always busy at Interpol’s offices, and the New York offices were no different. The main department floor was buzzing with officers handing in their paperwork from any cases they were following up last night, moments later, and a young lady officer rushed in with a huge pile of paper in her arms. It was surprising she could she over the pile, as it was a good 3 feet high. The Chief Superintendent was in his office, he was sat in his chair, awaiting the peasants of the young lady officer, he tapped his foot several times on the floor, he knew she was already 30 minutes late.
The young lady officer was still rushing through the main floor with her paperwork; she looked over to her left and squinted at the clock on the far office wall.
“D*mm!” she could not she the exact time, but she knew that she was very late! Suddenly she felt something knock against her thigh and momentarily heard cursing from her side that faded into the distance as she continued to run. She realised that she had knocked over somebody’s coffee.
“I’m sorry!” she called as she continued to run. Eventually she burst into the Chief Superintendent office and promptly dumped the huge amount of paperwork onto his desk.
“Sorry this is late Sir!” she started; she didn’t need to continue as the mouth of the Chief Superintendent evolved into a small smile.
“You have been working hard”, he said, he knew that the Shadowlaw case would involve a lot of paperwork, but even this surprised him, “so don’t worry about being late, after all this is your first time ever.” A look of relief spread over the lady’s face.
“You have been one of the hardest working officers I have ever had on my team,” his voice changed to a more somber tone, “It’s going to be a shame to see you leave… Officer Chun Li.”
