Your Adolescent Street Fighters Ch.2

Ken stepped out of the limo, followed by Ryu. The students
gawked at the limo, obviously impressed. Ken breathed in the air and smiled.
“Good ol’ Glenmore Academy”, he said to himself.
Ryu looked at the school. It was an incredibly old gray brick building about
4 stories high- complete with gargoyles on the roof and large French windows.
They entered the large black gates with a “Private Property” sign on the
outside.
Ryu eyed the other students in the yard. The school was co-ed. Some were
sitting on the front steps, leaning against trees, sitting in the grass, or
entering the building. All were chatting a mile a minute, catching up with
friends they hadn’t seen over the summer. Ryu had never been to a school so
huge with so many students before. The school that he and Ken had attended in
Japan was very small, like a house and only had about 50 kids- most of which
were Gouken’s martial arts pupils as well, since it was far from the town.
“C’mon”, said Ken and walked up the stone steps to enter the church-like
doors of the building. Ryu hurriedly followed right behind him. The entrance
was like a large lobby with carpeting and some oiled painting. The hallways
were wide and lined with large windows. The walls were a cream color with
detailed wooden carvings along the top and bottom borders. The floors were a
cream color as well and looked freshly waxed and buffed.
A female student, who looked younger than they were, was sitting at a table,
handing out class schedules. Ken and Ryu headed there- Ken with as sly smile on
his face.
“Masters…Ken Masters and Ryu Hoshi”
The girl immediately rummaged through her bow of files for their schedules.
“You know, I haven’t seen you here before”, Ken said with a devilish smile
at the girl.
Ryu rolled his eyes. The girl ignored Ken and handed them their schedules.
“Master and Hoshi”, she muttered and turned to help other students.
Ken, rejected, walked to a window with Ryu to compare schedules.
“We have almost all classes together,…except for Spanish and art”, Ken
pointed out as Ryu stared at his schedule.
What was he going to do without Ken in those classes? Ken patted him on the
shoulder. “Let’s check out homeroom, buddy”, and they walked up the main
staircase.
Somewhere else in the school
“Wow”, whispered Chun Li, admiring the inside architecture of Glenmore
Academy. “I’ve never been to such a fancy and enormous school”
“This may not be as bad as I thought it would be”, answered Fei Long,
peering into classrooms.
They were walking slowly down the second floor hallway trying to find
homeroom. Chun Li was scared, being only fifteen; she wouldn’t have the same
h/r as Fei Long who was almost 2 years older. Fei Long kept telling her not to
worry and she was making an effort to try.
Well, I guess my h/r must be on the third floor”, started Fei Long. “You
have to keep walking down the hallway< an with that, he sprinted up the
stairs. “See you at recess!” he called back to Chun Li, waving.
|Chun Li stood there, watching him disappear and she took a deep breath. Now
she was on her own. The male students at Glenmore weren’t making her stay there
any easier. Th4y were checking her out and whistling as she walked, staring at
the floor trying to ignore them. She was used to wearing a uniform because she
wore on in her old school. The female students here wore gray pleated skirts,
navy blue ties, navy blue blazers, and navy blue knee socks. She was tall for a
girl and the skirt they gave her was too short.
“Hey!” she yelled and cursed under her breath. She and someone else had
bumped into each other, spilling their schedules on the floor.
“I’m so sorry”, said the guy in a soft voice. They both knelt down to pick
up their schedules. Chun Li accidentally picked up his. “Ryu Hoshi”, she read.
Hmmm…that sounded familiar. She looked up and came face to face with a very
handsome guy. He looked very familiar to her. Where had she seen him? She asked
herself. She gazed into his dark brown eyes, somehow drawn to them.
“Uh,…here, this is yours”, she said and they exchanged schedules.
“Well, hello there”, said a charming voice beside them. She turned to see an
also good-looking, not to mention, preppy-looking, blond student with his hand
held out to shake hers.
“Hi”, she began and shook his hand. “I’m, uh, Chun Li, Chun Li Xiang”
“I’m Ken Masters. May you please excuse my klutzy friend, Ryu, here”, he
said, not taking his eyes off of her as he place one hand on Ryu’s shoulder.
“Um,yeah…well, it was my fault really”, said Chun Li, but she was cut off by
a loud “RRRIIINNGGGGG!!”. The bell.
Chun Li excused herself and ran to class. Ken and Ryu ran the other
direction.
Ken and Ryu slid into the classroom. The teacher gave them both a stern look
and they walked to the back of the class to take seats. The image of the pretty
girl refused to leave Ryu’s mind. She looked so familiar. Even the name, “Chun
Li Xiang”, sounded familiar to him.
Some students were chatting softly to each other, even Ken. Ryu glanced over
at Ken, who was talking to some red head. They must be friends, either that or
Ken’s womanizing as usual< thought Ryu. He turned his attention back to the
class and decided to study his classmates.
First, he looked to the front of the class, at the teacher. She was a plump,
short woman who looked to be in her late 40s.
“When I call your name, I want you to raise your hand and say present”, said
the teacher and she started reading from a paper.
She called out a string of names. Ryu looked to see who would answer to
each. The teacher called “Sharon Dame” and the red head that Ken was talking to
raised her hand obediently and said present. The teacher called the next
person, but no one answered. She repeated it louder. The guy named, Vega Fabio
de Cerna, who sat in the corner and was talking to someone, raised his hand and
uttered a dull “present”. He looked absolutely bored with the whole thing. Then
he yawned and turned his attention back to a pretty brunette who he was
charming. The girl was obviously flattered and was talking to him in
high-pitched giggles here and there.
The to Ryu’s and Ken’s surprise, the teacher called out a name that they
hadn’t heard in long time, “Dan Hibiki”. They looked at each other, then stuck
their heads up to see who would answer. No one. The teacher shrugged and wrote
something down on her paper. Ken and Ryu sank back down in their chairs and
looked at each other again.
“Do you think Dan goes to this school?” Ken whispered.
“I don’t know”, replied Ryu softly. They hadn’t seen Dan in over a year. Dan
Hibiki’s parents had been murdered by a warlord named M. Bison. He then stayed
with Gouken and trained with Ken, Ryu, and the other disciples. The trio had
become close friends. Ryu remembered all the mischief the three had done, usually
Ken’s or Dan’s ideas and getting punished together by Sensei Gouken. They were
like brothers. A while ago, he left to stay with his aunt in America. Ken and
Ryu hadn’t seen him since. Ryu wondered if it was the same Dan. Ken wondered
the same thing.
“Chun Li Xiang…is there a Chun-Li-Xiang here?” asked the teacher.
“Huh? Uh…here!” called Chun Li and shot up her hand from the back of the
class. She was already embarrassed from coming in late, but now she blushed a
bright red as everyone turned around to look at her. She had not been paying
attention. She was still thinking about the guy she had bumped into. His face
lingered in his head.
Chun Li turned to her left, trying to avoid the stares and looked at the
person sitting next to her. It was a pretty blond girl with long, braided
pigtails, wearing a red barrette. She also had a scar on her jaw. The girl
smile sweetly at Chun Li and her green eyes twinkled.
“Hullo, I’m Cammy White,…Chun Li, right?” she asked in a heavy English
accent.
“Right, hi!” Chun Li answered back, smiling. The girl seemed pretty nice.
Maybe she’d make a friend. “So, um, are you a foreign exchange student?” Chun
Li asked, continuing conversation.
“Yup”, replied Cammy.
“Then you’re staying in the dorms?”
“Ahem!”, interrupted the teacher and he gave them a wide-eyed, sharp look.
They both turned their attention back to the front. Chun Li and Cammy
blushed.
