Through His Eyes

An ancient stadium found within Rome. A fire in the sky dying down, making the sky an auburn color. Two fighters, each with their own agendas, found staring each other down. Alex was here for Gill. Gill was here for the world. Two very different fighters had crossed paths, and now they each stood in another’s way for their desired goals.

Alex was fighting to avenge his foster father Tom. It took him three years to find the man who was responsible for crippling Tom with a massive power bomb that made every spectator in the room look in awe, including Alex. He could remember seeing Tom’s neck collide with the cold hard ground. It turned his dreams into nightmares every night.

However, Alex wasn’t only here to serve out his branded form of justice. He was looking for answers that Tom would not answer. Why was Tom after this blue and red freak? Why did Tom always have those business meetings? Why was Tom crying the night he came back from the final business meeting he had, and why was he so depressed afterwards? Alex knew this Gill character had the answers to his burning questions. He didn’t know why Gill had the answers, but he knew Gill did. This Gill was connected to Tom, and Alex wanted to know what their relationship was.

Alex cracked his knuckles. As he did so, Gill laughed. “What are you planning to do, boy?” the massive, almost god-like being asked. “You don’t think you’re actually going to beat the answers out of me, do you?” Alex looked at Gill with a questioned look. How did he know that Alex was searching for answers?

Gill smirked. “Oh, I know all about you Alex. I also know all about your dear foster father Tom. I know secrets that are meant to be his, and his alone. ” Gill smiled. “Still, if you want answers, I will be willing to give them to you. After all, you’ve searched long and hard for me, and I just can’t have you die without learning the truth.” Gill’s smiles and grins turned into a face of expressionless emotion. “Let me tell you a story,” Gill said.

There is a secret society known as The Brotherhood. It is an alliance whose members have powers beyond your wildest imagination. Every twenty-four years a new person is nominated to lead The Brotherhood. This is done in order to find the Righteous One. Legend has it that the Righteous One will rid the earth of plague, suffering and hate. Whoever is nominated has twenty-four years to prove themselves of being the Righteous One.

Twenty-seven years ago, a man by the name of M. Bison was chosen. He had proved himself to be the strongest one at the time; his powers back then are still a match for my own powers today. Bison believed he was the one that would bring utopia to this god-forsaken world.

But things change, as do people. That’s what happened to Bison. He came across an artifact found in a temple somewhere in Thailand. That artifact turned out to be the Psycho Drive. Interested in this Psycho Drive, Bison used all his wits and intelligence to figure out what exactly it was, and what it did. It took him years, but he was finally able to crack it. And that’s when things changed. That’s when he changed. His powers merged with the powers Psycho Drive. Once he had a taste of that Psycho Power, he would never go back. He went insane. He soon branched off from The Brotherhood and created his own empire, which you know as Shadowlaw. He became corrupted with the Psycho Power, and soon forgot what his original objective was. He was now concerned with ruling the world instead of making it a better place, and he sought to make sure that dream became true by any means necessary. That’s when the drug trafficking and the human experimentations came into play. He even inserted his DNA into the being of a young eighteen year-old British girl named Cammy White. His intention was to create a woman who had his Psycho Power DNA so that their offspring would be just as powerful, if not more, than he was. Bison was so sure of himself that he held a tournament that had not been held for four years: the Street Fighter tournament. Bison believed that if he were to rule the world, he would need to defeat every single fighter who was worthy enough to get into the tournament.

Bison had become truly mad, and The Brotherhood sought out to put an end to Bison and his grand scheme. They hid behind the scenes and created, manipulated the force that would stop Bison. This is where Tom came into play. Unbeknownst to you and the rest of your family, Tom was a part of Interpol, the International Police. That’s why he always had those business meetings. This was the force that was created by The Brotherhood. Tom, along with a brand of top agents, Chun-Li Xiang, Charlie Nash and William Guile, infiltrated the Shadowlaw base as the Street Fighter tournament was being held. At the time, Bison faced a challenger known as Ryu, who also happened to win the previous Street Fighter tournament. As the two clashed in a battle that made the heavens trembled, Chun-Li, Charlie, Guile and Tom were able to get past the guards and destroy the Psycho Drive. This caused Bison to weaken tremendously, and gave Ryu the upper hand. With his remaining bit of strength, Ryu performed a Rising Dragon Punch that sent Bison reeling into defeat. Ryu was declared the champion.

It didn’t take long for Bison to realize that the Psycho Drive had been destroyed. He teleported himself back to the base, right in front of the fleeing suspect group. Angry that he would not be able to realize his dream, Bison used his last bit of strength to make the base self-destruct, killing himself in the process. During the explosion, Tom was nearly caught by a falling pillar. He was pushed out of the way by Charlie, who got caught instead. Charlie’s best friend Guile tried desperately to get Charlie out but to no avail. As the building collapsed, Charlie persuaded Guile, Tom and Chun Li to escape. They did so, and watched from outside as the whole base collapsed and exploded, taking everything and everyone with it.

Guile blamed Tom and Bison for Charlie’s death, and disbanded from Interpol, returning to the Navy. Chun Li, after somewhat avenging her father’s death, was able to live her life as a youth, something she could not do while Bison was still alive. And as for Tom…that explains why he cried that night. It explains why he was so cold afterward, so sad. He had lost two friends, and blamed himself for it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a lot of information for Alex. He didn’t care for a Ryu, or an Interpol, or this Brotherhood. He wanted to only know about Tom. He found out the answers to many of his questions, and it made sense. He had a feeling Gill was right. Still, he didn’t get one of his questions answered.

“So why did you have to cripple him? If what you say is true, hasn’t he suffered enough?” Alex asked. Gill smirked. “You don’t know the whole story. Tom figured out that The Brotherhood was behind this scheme. He felt cheated. His life had become a life of compromise, a life of suffering. And he blamed it on The Brotherhood.”

“Why was he after you then?”

“Remember how I said every twenty-four years a person would be nominated to be the Righteous One? I was next in line. Somehow Tom figured this out, and he went after me. He intended to kill me, but failed. Three years you’ve searched, and here we are.”

“He should have torn you limb from limb.”

“Heh, you don’t understand. Why would you kill the man who is going to make the world a utopian place? Millions must die in order for billions to survive in a prosperous world. What I’m doing is right. ”

“You call killing millions of people ‘right?’ You’re insane! How do you decide who lives and who dies?!”

“Sniff the air you breathe. Smell that hatred. Smell that poverty. Smell that evil. People fight over resources, over religion, over lifestyles, even over skin color. How can you defend those types of people? The utopia that I will bring will have everybody living with one another peacefully.”

“You’re merely assimilating the world! Look, without all these people, the world would be filled with only one personality: yours! I don’t want to live in a world under your autocracy! Believe in the world we live in today.”

“Ah boy, you fail to see the vision I have created.”

“That’s my point! With you at the helm, people will have to be led under your guidelines. My eyes are different from yours, Gill. Look through my eyes. Their visions are different from yours, as well as everybody else’s eyes. Nobody’s visions should be exactly the same.”

“The Brotherhood has given this world and its inhabitants many chances. In fact, The Brotherhood staged World War II. We wanted to bring people of every race, religion and lifestyle together in harmony. But earth did not change. Even with the defeat of those detestable people earth did not change one bit!” Gill stepped towards Alex. “What I have planned is something grand, something that will make this world grand as it once was. If I have to prove myself to you, so be it.” Gill was inching his way towards Alex, whom in response got ready if Gill were to pull off anything. Gill stopped right in front of Alex. Alex allowed his guard to drop. He sensed that Gill was not going to hurt him.

Gill right hand, made of fire, lifted in front of Alex’s face, the palm open. With his index and middle fingers, he gently touched Alex’s forehead. “Let me show you something.” Gill said.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An image of two people, a man and a woman, came before Alex’s eyes. These people are your parents. They lived in poverty, yet they decided to still have a child. Alex saw the two holding a child. Foolish. There’s no point in them bringing a child into the world when they couldn’t even take care of themselves. They realized that too, so they abandoned you. An image of a child left on the doorstep of an orphanage passes through Alex’s eyes. But it wasn’t because they couldn’t handle the responsibility; rather, it was for you to live a life of happiness than a life of h*ll. Your parents died soon after, cold, alone, with no money, food or a shelter to live in while you continued on to live your life, hating your parents. They sacrificed their lives for you, and in return you despised them.

Tom suddenly appeared before Alex’s eyes, and Alex’s spirit seemed to glisten. This Tom, how you loved him so dearly. He was your savior, he was the one who took you away from that gloomy orphanage. You loved him so much you couldn’t even see his faults. Tom’s ex-wife appeared. Alex felt hatred. Why do you think she always had those bruises? Why was she always afraid to be alone with Tom? Why do you think she always loved you, when in return you hated her? Tom showed up again. Him. He brainwashed you into hating her. He hated her himself, but that wasn’t enough. He needed you to hate her as well. But why did he hate her? She couldn’t give him what he wanted: a child. But with you in the picture now, he didn’t need her any more.

Gill pulled back his hand slowly, as Alex gasped for air, falling on his knees. As Gill walked away, Gill said, “I intend on making sure that does not happen to any other family. Now you know… you know what I’m doing is right. You know the truth now.” Alex, still on his knees, kept seeing the images as the information Gill had given him swirled around his brain.

Gill stopped. He turned around, looking at a fallen distraught Alex. “You’ve lost your will to fight. Good. I’ve helped one soul.” Alex still couldn’t shake it out of his mind. He saw his parents in a different light, as well as Tom. He finally saw what Gill saw. Alex’s eyes shed tears.
