Deadly Assignment Ch. 1
By Cassie
~ Interpole HQ, New York ~
Within the massive Interpole building, a meeting took place. Many important
people had attended, taking their place among the table that had been set up in
the centre of the room. However, the meeting had not yet started. There was one
empty space that was yet to be occupied. Chun Li tapped on the table
impatiently, if there was one thing she couldn’t stand it was people that
weren’t punctual…
(Chun Li) – (Where the H*LL is she? She knows how important this meeting is.
Guile’s going to tell us what’s happening and she obviously has an important
part to play because the meeting would have started without her else)
Guile stood at the far end of the room, preparing the information he
intended to display - at least the young girl’s absence was good for something…
Down stairs a young girl burst through the doors, she was greeted by a hasty
receptionist.
Receptionist – “Can I help you?”
The young girl quickly pushed past and ran towards the elevator “Sorry, I’m
late for my meeting!!”. The receptionist stood in the hall, bewildered at the
sight of the girl. Unfortunately, the elevator was being used and she had no
time to wait for it, she groaned at the sight of the stairs but didn’t have the
time to contemplate her thoughts. With incredible speed she bounded up the
stairs…
(Oh crap I’ve got to get to the 32nd floor!) she thought. A young man
walking past carrying hundreds of photocopied sheets caught a streak of green
material and leg paint and a flash of blonde hair - In his surprise he dropped
all the papers and made a pathetic attempt to catch them.
“Soooorryyyy!” she shouted, without turning back to see what she had done
and continued up the flight of stairs, after what seemed like ages, she finally
reached the top of the stairs – only to see the people in the elevator already
walking down the corridor!
“Typical…” she groaned through her heavy breathing, she paused for a moment
to try and catch her breath and then continue towards the door that she should
have walked through about twenty minuets ago.
As she opened the door, everybody turned to look at her. She turned a slight
shade of crimson and progressed towards her seat…
Guile – “Cammy White, your lateness has caused us to loose twenty minuets of
very important time”
Cammy sat down in her place next to Chun Li and gave her a brief smile
before turning to Guile.
“I’m sorry Captain but the traffic was bloody murder”
Cammy looked around to see everybody still staring at her, she returned some
of the gazes and most of them finally turned away. Chun Li shook her head with
disgrace at the sight of her friend but couldn’t stop a small grin from
appearing on her face. It could only be Cammy…
Guile sighed with impatience and finally began to proceed with the meeting.
Guile – “As most of you will know, Interpole and the U.S Army have together
discovered Bison’s Head quarters. It’s been located in Thailand, a small island
off Songkhla called Mriganka”
Cammy made a victory sign at Chun Li, who replied with a smile and a nod.
Guile paused and looked at Cammy, who promptly turned back and paid
attention.
Guile – “Unfortunately, we have news that Bison has developed some kind of
new weapon. We have no idea what kind of weapon this is but before we destroy
the building we need to make sure that the weapon is destroyed, as is all
information states of it’s existance and all the people that have created it”
(Cammy) – (Oh that’s no asking for too much then! How the h*ll does he
expect us to that?)
Guile – “Of course, any form of backup included so that if something goes
wrong and not all of the base is destroyed then we know part of our mission is
successful. Which is where Miss Li and Miss White come in. You two are the most
suitable for this mission as you are both very capable World Warriors”
(Chun Li) – (We won’t be given any weapons?)
Guile – “Weapons can’t be allowed as you have to remain under cover through
the whole operation but if something goes wrong you can still get your *sses
out of there”
Chun Li & Cammy - (Oh boy!)
Guile – “Are there any questions?”
Chun Li – “How will we go in there?”
Guile – “I was just about to go onto that – You will both pass through on a
Shadowloo Vessel ship as scientists working on the project”
Cammy – “What happens when we get out?”
Guile – “If you are uninjured during this then you two will aid me in
bringing down Bison. We have to try and take him down while we have the chance.
The details about that part of the mission will be given on our way there. The
two of you will depart in 48 hours”
Chun Li and Cammy nodded in agreement.
~ Chun Li’s Apartment ~
It was the day before the mission and getting late into night. Chun Li
shifted in her bed uneasily – there was definitely not going to be any sleep
for her tonight. By the sound of it Cammy wasn’t either.
Chun Li – “Cammy, are you ok?”
Cammy rested on a spare mattress on the floor with lots of extra blankets
near Chun Li’s bed. They planned to leave for the mission together.
Cammy – “Yeah I’m fine, just nervous”
Chun Li – “Yeah I bet…I’d be scared going back to that h*ll hole after all
this time too”
Cammy – “Yeah, I am kinda scared”
Chun Li – “You want to have my bed? It’s much more comfortable”
Cammy – “No, I’m fine”
Chun Li – “You want some cocoa?”
Cammy – “Only if you’re getting some for yourself”
Chun Li stuck her foot out and tested the temperature. It was freezing,
still she wanted a warm drink and pulled back the cover and got up. She walked
to the kitchen in her p.js (pyjamas) and got two mugs for the rack. When she
had finished making them she turned around to find Cammy standing behind her.
Cammy – “I’m worried that something will go wrong, what if someone
recognises me?”
Chun Li – “It’s been ages, besides, if Guile and all thought there would be
a risk they wouldn’t have assigned you. Are you worried about the people who
worked with you recognising you – or Bison?”
Cammy – “Both…I don’t remember the others I worked with but they might
remember me…”
Chun Li – “But you know Bison would recognise you – he’d see me too but I
guess that wouldn’t matter as much”
Cammy – “If Bison finds any of us there, he’s going to be shi**ing kittens”
Chun Li – “If you get found out, I won’t leave you there – you have my word.
If you have to face Bison then he’ll have to face me too, you won’t be alone,
Cammy. We’re in this together”
Cammy hugged Chun Li tightly, Chun Li just smiled.
Cammy – “Chun, you’re the best friend anyone could have!”
Chun Li – “Not really, any real friend would do the same”
They both took their mugs and walked back to Chun Li’s room. After chatting
for several hours, they tried to get back to sleep. After a while Chun Li’s
calming words seemed to help Cammy sleep whereas Chun Li remained awake. She
walked to the window – it over looked a lot of the city… truly a lovely site on
a night like tonight. There was no blanket of cloud covering the sky – which
explained the bitter temperature. She walked back to her bet and snuggled in
where it was warm and tried to forget the mission. Then a warming thought came
into her head…
(I wonder where Ryu is…)
