Fate Ch. 1 - Emptiness
By Animenadie

The cold, damp wind blew lightly across the cemetery. The rain drizzled down upon the saturated ground as thunder rolled lightly in the distance. An overcast grey sky seemed to depict the mood of the figure standing in the center of the hollowed place.

The figure was that of a Chinese woman, clothed in a hooded black overcoat. The hood covered her dark brown hair, which was pulled tightly into two braided buns. Her light complection drew attention to her dark brown eyes, which seemed even darker today. Eyes that were fixed on the familiar stone infront of her.

'Father...'

Today was the twentieth anniversary of the event that fueled so much hatred in her life. A life that was mostly spent trying to end the life of the one she hated.

Bison.

As the cold rain began to soak through her long overcoat, she let her thoughts wander back to more than a year ago, to the day Bison's life ended.

'Ryu and I killed Bison, but...somehow...I still feel empty. Father, I still miss you so much. I've avenged your death...but it still feels like I've accomplished nothing', she silently thought.

'Ryu's been so helpful. I wish he could have met you Father, I think you would have liked him. He's one of the few friends I have. I never took much time to make friends in my quest, but I'm glad I met him. He's been such a great friend, so understanding...'

'I don't think he knows that I still feel empty. I don't think I want him to know. He's tried so hard to help me be happy. He helped me destroy Bison to avenge your death. He's always been there for me since I first met him....But I still feel empty...'

She was now slightly shivering from the cold. She had'nt noticed how damp she was until now. She took a single white rose from under her coat and knelt to place it on the grave.

"I have to go now Father. I'll visit again soon. I love you."

With those words, she placed the rose on the ground in front of the tombstone. As she turned to go, she saw a familiar figure standing at the gate. Her eyes met the compassionate gaze of the friend who had been staying with her for the past two weeks.

"Ryu! How long have you been there?", she said, a little surprised that he had been watching her.

"Not long", he replied. "When I woke up you were gone...and I thought you might be here."

Chun-li looked at him for a moment. She could tell he had been woried about her. She realized how wet he was since he only had a light jacket on.

"Come on," she said. "Let's go before you catch a cold."

As she took his hand to lead him through the gate, she noticed that his hand was much warmer than her own.

"Looks like you're the one who should worry about a cold," he said.

As they left the cemetery and walked toward Chun-li's car, Chun-li stopped and looked back at the place from which a part of her could never leave.

She felt a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"Are you ok?", a soft voice asked.

She looked up and met the his gentle gaze.

"Yeah...I'm ok."

They got in the car and went back to Chun-li's appartment.
